The Friends of Alex, Kirsten and Alexis Moore and Westmont College invite you to honor the remarkable life of Alex Moore and express your love and support for his widow, Kirsten, and their daughter, Alexis, participating in the Alex Moore Classic, Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013, at 5:30 p.m., Murchison Gymnasium, Westmont College.

Alex loved generously and cared deeply about others, especially his family. His untimely death, occurring just seven weeks before the birth of Alexis, has left Kirsten with deep sorrow and a financial burden as a single parent. The proceeds from the Alex Moore Classic will provide welcome resources for Alex’s precious family, Kirsten and Alexis, and support Crohn’s research as well.

 

One in every 200 Americans suffers from Crohn’s disease and related health complications. Alex Moore’s life was unexpectedly cut short as a result of this devastating disease. The Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America seeks a cure for Crohn’s and ulcerative colitis and works to improve the health of children and adults afflicted with these illnesses, which attack the digestive systems in painful and unpredictable ways. The foundation devotes more than 80 percent of the funds it raises to critical research, programs for participants and educational efforts. Part of the proceeds from the Alex Moore Classic will go to support Crohn’s research.

From the President

The Westmont community was devastated by the tragic death of Alex Moore in May. He was a bright light with a winsome humility, and he played a unique and distinct role in our kinesiology department. His commitment to both teaching and scholarship enhanced regard for the kinesiology major, and we regret that he served Westmont for so short a time. He was just beginning to fulfill his potential, and we envisioned a long and distinguished academic career for him.

As deeply as we feel the passing of this colleague, we grieve even more for the loss to Alex’s wife and daughter, Kirsten and Alexis Moore. Alex never met his beautiful baby, who was born after his death. His serious illness and subsequent death prevented Alex from providing for his family.

During my years at Westmont, I’ve been touched and encouraged to see the community rally in support for those who are hurting or dealing with loss. At Westmont, we take care of our own. We seek to assist Kirsten and Alexis in every tangible way possible, including financial. I’m delighted to witness the love and concern for Kirsten that has inspired the Alex Moore Classic and the many people who have stepped forward to make this event a success and a blessing for Alex’s wife and daughter.

Thank you so much for participating in this event, for honoring a truly remarkable man, and for making a difference in the lives of Kirsten and Alexis Moore. May God bless you.
