What: The First-Year Retreat invites students to connect with one another while exploring and growing through their college transition. Complete with plenty of recreation time including swimming, zip line, climbing wall, ultimate frisbee, s'mores, and bonfires, friendships and great memories are sure to be made! We encourage all first-year Westmont students to attend, though unfortunately space is limited, so sign-up early!
Who: Benji Bruneel serves as the Associate Pastor of College and Missions at Santa Barbara Community Church. In that role, he loves to explore how faith impacts the day-to-day lives of college students. Benji has led Capax Dei small groups at Westmont for each of the past 2 years and has particularly enjoyed using those times as an avenue to help students reexamine and rediscover the central tenets of the Christian faith. A 2007 graduate of Dallas Theological Seminary, where he received his ThM (and a healthy love for good barbecue), he is currently enrolled in a Doctor of Ministry program through Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary. Benji has been married to Greta for 15 years and they have 3 children; Gwyneth (6), Margot (4), and Isaac (1). Benji loves his family, the Church, baseball, good coffee, traveling, and anytime his children allow him to sleep past 6 am.
