Parent Support Net - January 2016

Happy New Year, Westmont Parents!

As I write, I’m ecstatic to see, hear and feel the rain pouring down on us. While mindful of the trouble too much rain can bring, we’re celebrating the much-needed moisture in our drought-stricken area.

The new year offers us all a chance to reflect on the past, press on with hopeful anticipation to what God has planned, and celebrate His good gifts. We hope your son or daughter spent a restful and re-energizing time at home and that you reconnected and reached a deeper understanding of who your student is becoming in response to God’s gracious provision.

As we look ahead to 2016, I’m excited to work with my wonderful team at this amazing place. We greet returning students this spring who studied abroad during the fall, send others overseas to gain global experiences (my daughter included), and warmly welcome those transferring here mid-year or beginning their college careers.

We’ve designed some activities to serve you, especially Parents Weekend, March 11-12. Please mark your calendar and make your hotel reservations today! At Parents Weekend you can connect with other parents, experience a bit of Westmont and watch your son or daughter perform in Spring Sing at the Santa Barbara Bowl. If you’ve never attended this high-energy show, plan to see it this year.

As always, please feel free to contact our office with any questions, concerns or ideas you might have. We value your partnership with us and want to hear from you. You’ll find our photos below.

Blessings as you begin 2016,

Teri Bradford Rouse ’77

Welcome New Students & Parents

WelcomeWe’re delighted to welcome our new parents and their students to the Westmont family. This semester 31 new students have joined us on campus. The majority have transferred in, some are beginning their education and others are visiting for a semester from other Christian colleges. We look forward to meeting the parents of 20 women and 11 men, who come from California, Minnesota, Missouri, Colorado, Michigan, Florida, Arizona, Iowa, Texas, Washington, Argentina and Saudi Arabia.

Upcoming Off-Campus Study Opportunites

abroadYour student can choose from numerous opportunities to study off campus. This semester, students may apply for Westmont in Jerusalem semester in spring 2017 program as well as for Westmont in San Francisco and Westmont Downtown and programs that Westmont approves but doesn’t operate.

This semester, 26 students have enrolled in Westmont in Istanbul, led by Professor Heather Keaney and her husband, Jim Wright. If you would like to hear a parent’s perspective about this program, read our article from two years ago, which provides great insight and perspective on overseas experiences. About 20 students are studying at Westmont in San Francisco and Westmont Downtown, with 14 participating in programs offered by other colleges.

Please remember that application deadlines for all Westmont international programs typically occur about a year in advance. For more details and application deadlines, check the specific links above as well as Off Campus Programs for more information. You may also contact ocp@westmont.edu.
