5x5: Celebrating Ten Years For Artists

We would be honored if you would help us by creating a work of art on the square of Rives BFK paper, which you will find inside the cardboard envelope you received in the mail. We invite you to make a simple sketch, a painting, a print, a collage, a photo, or whatever medium suits you – the possibilities are endless! You are not required to use our supplied paper, but we would prefer for all works to be roughly 5” square. In past years we have received and exhibited some wonderful three-dimensional works as well.

5X5: Celebrating Ten Years will be on view December 3-18, 2020. We hope to install your donated work in our galleries and organize a festive opening (it depends on Covid restrictions at the time). However, you can count on all works being posted in the online exhibition and auction; electronic bidding will be done with minimum suggested bids and 5 dollar minimum bidding increments.

We will post high-res images of your creations, publish short artists bios, and create a link to each artist’s website. We will purchase ads to publicize the online exhibition and auction. All funds raised by sales will benefit arts programming at the Westmont Ridley-Tree Museum of Art.

Please return your work in the enclosed stamped cardboard envelope as soon as
possible, but no later than Tuesday, November 24, 2020. Kindly fill out and return the enclosed card to help us properly catalog your artwork. Artist’s contact information will not be released to purchasers. Any unsold works will be returned to the artist.

The most common question we receive from artists is, “why did you invite me?” In many cases we are aware of your work from publications, social media, recommendations by friends of the museum, you have some sort of past connection with the museum or its staff, or in some cases the museum has a work of yours in our permanent collection. Regardless of how we connected with you, we sent you an invitation because we appreciate what you do and hope that you will consider contributing in this small way!

Thank you for your consideration to our invitation. We look forward to seeing the wonderful work you create! Your generous support through this donation of a small work of art helps further our mission of enriching lives through art.

Questions about the exhibition and auction can be directed to Chris Rupp at crupp@westmont.edu or 805-565-7109.
