The COVE Career Center Faculty Resources
It's no secret – faculty are the number one influencer on campus. The time, care and energy that professors invest in the lives of students builds relationships which last well beyond four years at Westmont. The math is quite simple, students spend hours per week with faculty. Yet we're lucky if those same students spend hours per year with us. That's why we rely on faculty partnerships to help students "launch" well with an authentic confidence rooted in the work they've done both in and outside the classroom.
We encourage you to review the following for ways to benefit your students, department and sections. We're all ears and welcome your feedback and ideas for ongoing partnerships. To request a workshop, contact Julissa Delgado.
We want to broaden students' perspective to better understand concepts such as transferable skills to reinforce the Westmont liberal arts value proposition -- freeing them to pursue areas of interest more deeply because they know that, in the long run, their strengths can be applied in myriad of different academic and professional endeavors.
Please review the tabs and our The COVE Career Center Menu, which provide an overview of our services and suggested uses in class settings.
If you find an exercise or program that would be effective as part of your curriculum, we'd gladly work with you to present to your entire class or groups of students as you see fit. Contact Julissa Delgado to make arrangements.
We can guide students through assessments such as TypeFocus and Strong Interest Inventory which can give students insight into what makes them tick and how they interact with others.
Contact Julissa Delgado to arrange for a class exercise in any of our offerings, including TypeFocus or Strong Interest Inventory.
We appreciate the conversations you have with students your own academic and professional pathway that led you to your field of study, and ask that you also encourage them to use outside sources such as WhatCanIDoWithThisMajor.com to help frame their decision and look at potential career paths as it relates to choosing a major.
Department heads:
- Consider embedding a link on your department home page that is specific to your major.
- Encourage students to explore LinkedIn to see how Westmont alums have used their major in their life and profession.
Contact us if you need assistance in setting this up on your webpage.
We enjoy collaboration! Use our lobby (seats up to 50) for an occasional change of venue for your class, departmental functions, after-hours special events or receptions. It comes equipped with a large flat screen for presentations (Apple AirPlay and Google Chromecast equipped).
Contact Julissa Delgado for more information.
Located directly above the main entrance to the dining commons, this outdoor deck (dubbed the Launch Pad) can serve as a great venue for small gatherings of students or guests from off campus.
If you have guests speaking in classes or other venues, encourage them to take part in the "Live from the Launch Pad" video series. Simply put, we want to interview people from a wide range of disciplines and professions to tell the story of their post college pathway and to share specific tips about careers in their area of expertise. Interviews will last 15-30 minutes and will be edited and posted online for student viewing.
As we build a library of video interviews, students will benefit greatly from hearing how others have pursued their academic and professional interests.
Contact Paul Bradford for more information or to schedule an interview for one of your on-campus guests.
