The interaction of light and glass captivates me¬— whenever I see glass, I find myself fascinated by the intensity of light in the highlights and the distortion of the form when light travels through it. Depicting the beauty of light interacting with glass, I am both challenged and exhilarated. From Italian Renaissance paintings to Dutch Baroque still lifes, artists have been drawn to painting glass both for its captivating splendor and the difficulties it poses to paint.
My paintings are detailed renderings of carefully arranged still lifes. Each still life is an assortment of five to six glass objects with small pieces of tin foil added for a complex visual experience. My compositions are brightly illuminated, but with cool temperature hues. This illumination makes the glasses glow and vibrate with life.
