Untitled explores the universal presence of pain. From one pedestal to the next, the viewer is invited to see a visual representation of the release of internal pain, contributing to the molding and shaping of our individual stories. The construction of Untitled was a therapeutic experience of vulnerability and an exploration of how I personally endure hardship.
Anxiety, especially social and academic, has been a significant burden in my life. After years of listening to the whispers of my insecurities and anxieties saying that I am not enough, I unknowingly morphed into an individual that was no longer recognizable. I needed to separate myself from toxic relationships and spend time on self-evaluation. That is when I realized that I have a choice to lean into my strengths and weaknesses, accepting that my faith and experiences will be different from others.
Symbolically, the succulents represent forces in our lives that enact individual growth, and the nails represent both negative and positive experiences impacting our existence. The hands bring attention to a variety of intense emotional gestures. My motivation for Untitled is to share my ongoing battle with anxiety and to encourage others to celebrate and lean into individual strengths and weaknesses with love and graciousness towards ourselves and one another.
