Through photography, Catherine Opie explores the culturally constructed American identity. Opie traveled across the country documenting classic American subjects, from high school football players to the 2008 Presidential inauguration.
Crenshaw High School Marching Band was included in an exhibition of Opie’s photographs of high school football games. Opie spent three years traveling to seven states to document the American phenomena surrounding high school football culture, focusing on themes such as masculinity, boosterism, and community spectacles.
