How can young adults and churches journey together in faith?

For many people, young adulthood is a time of dramatic questioning and questing. They're growing in their awareness of their own identities and gifts, learning more about the real needs of the world, and seeing more of how they might be called to serve God’s kingdom.

But this is also the time of life when people are least likely to participate in a church community. That’s a loss to young adults, but it’s also a loss to congregations, who miss the chance to be challenged and refreshed by the experiences of young adulthood.

Please join us at Westmont on January 23 for our Conversation on Young Adults and the Church. We’ll hear from Steve Argue, author of Young Adult Ministry Now and a specialist in emerging adulthood. We’ll hear from young adults themselves as they reflect on their stories of faith and lives in the church. And we’ll meet other pastors and laypeople who care about the ways churches and young adults can journey together.

Thanks to the generosity of Lilly Endowment Inc. travel stipends are available for attendees. Please email yall@westmont.edu to inquire by Wednesday, January 18.

There is reserved parking available in the Kerr Student Center Lot (P1), with overflow parking also available in the Page (P6) and Emerson Hall (P4) lots. Signs and balloons will direct you from these parking lots to the GLC. We also encourage carpooling to campus if possible.

Parking at Westmont is free and no permit is necessary in any lot.

  • Kerr Student Center Lot (P1): This lot will have reserved parking. To get to this lot, bypass the first campus entrance you'll see, then bear left at the fork in Cold Springs Rd., then left again to go through the large stone upper campus gate. Once you're through the gate, make an immediate left into a large parking lot (if you find yourself on a circular drive bordering a large lawn, you've gone slightly too far). From there, registration at the GLC is just to the south; from the lot, walk downhill on the path bordering Kerr Student Center, then bear left across the long footbridge. The GLC is the collection of golden-tan buildings just across the bridge. There will be signs to guide you to the Kerr Student Center Parking Lot and the Global Leadership Center.
  • Emerson (P4) and Page Hall (P6) Lots: Follow the instructions above. Instead of making a left turn into the Kerr Student Center lot, continue straight ahead and follow the signs to Emerson and Page Hall lots. There will be balloons to guide you to the Global Leadership Center.

The Young Adult Leadership Lab is one of four programs at Westmont that help churches and individuals explore God’s call. If you work with high school youth, we invite you to learn more about Trailhead, a summer experience that invites young people to slow down and see how their lives might participate in God’s work. If you’re a pastor, please consider Frontiers, a program that supports ministry professionals through seasons of visioning and transition. Thriving Communities gathers churches to explore how we can see and do the work God calls us to on California's Central Coast.
