These five woodcut prints are a representation of my questions and struggles with faith. This emotional and contemplative journey is imbedded in my exploration of the printmaking medium, as I am drawn to the hands-on process of woodcuts and the potential that they hold. Carving the image into the wood allows me to feel physically connected to my work and the nature of woodcut allows for the graphic style I desire.
The four outer prints in this series represent the struggles I have encountered in my faith. Throughout this wrestling of emotions comes a constant notion: love and goodness in creation. This notion is represented by the floral pattern running throughout the series. It culminates in the center print emphasizing the beauty in human connection. Amongst all the uncertainty and pain of faith, we have control over our actions toward others. Thus, I choose to live each day focused on loving others to the best of my ability, forgiving myself when I fail, and striving to be a little bit better today than I was yesterday.
