My collection of work conveys my deep reverence for the ocean and desert. I am inspired and moved by bold textures, dynamic lines, and soothing color palettes that reference the contrasting landscapes of my childhood. The three multimedia pieces represent the different terrains and natural forms from the areas I once called home

I explore the relationship between color and form by using different materials. Memory mapping and research of typographic maps from each landscape provide the overall shape and design for each piece, and the foundation consists of three large wood panels with layers of hand-cut cardboard pieces that add additional depth and texture. I chose to work with plaster mixed acrylic and water, pouring these into different buckets to create my ocean and desert-inspired color palettes. By ripping up individual plaster strips, dipping them into the paint, and masking them onto the canvas, I achieved my textural composition. When I paint with plaster, I am drawn to the tactile experience of painting with my hands. The application is heavy-handed and sculptural and this physicality is inherent to interacting with the work.
