Residence Life FAQs
Some FAQs for living in residence halls
Q: I'm not sure if I can come back to campus to get my belongings and check out...
Students have until May 1st, 2020 to check out of their rooms. Hopefully, travel will be increasingly less risky with time, allowing for all students to check out by this date. If that is not the case and students are unable to travel to campus, Residence Life will create a process accommodating to this as the May deadline approaches.
Q. Who is my RD and what do they do?
An “RD” is the “Resident Director” of your your resident hall, a Westmont staff member who lives in your hall and oversees the day-to-day operations, supervises the RA staff, provides resources for students and spearheads educational and social initiatives in order to foster a diverse and transformative environment in your residence hall. You can expect to hear from them about how to check in and out of your room, as well as inviting you to all-hall events happening throughout the year. Your RD is in their role because they value you and want to offer the support and challenge you will need in order to thrive as a student during your time at Westmont. You should feel free to reach out, introduce yourself, and get to know him or her–they would love to meet you and get to know your unique story.
Q. What is an “RA”?
An “RA” (Resident Assistant) is a peer who is serving as a student leader in your particular residence hall section. Your RA has opted into this position in order to serve you, get to know you, and they're someone who you'll want in your corner as you navigate the ebbs and flows of relationships within your residence hall.
Q. Something’s broken in my room. What should I do?
Talk to your RA and they will make sure to help you out.
