Sandra grew up playing in the snowy mountains of Colorado before attending Westmont. As a student she was a communication studies major, participated in Potter’s Clay and Spring Sing, competed in Track & Field, served as an RA, studied on Europe semester and worked in the college bookstore. She earned her Masters in Educational Leadership & Organizations from UCSB, where she also worked in Orientation Programs and then served as an Academic Advisor. Additionally, Sandra worked as a Resident Director at Gordon College, California Lutheran University and at Westmont. Outside of being a full-time sports fan to her two teenage kids, she volunteers as Director of Royal Family KIDS Camp of Santa Barbara, a summer camp for foster children. Sandra loves to travel, exercise and play board games. She is known for her love for roller skating, all things 80’s and trying to find the best deals on anything she buys. Joanna grew up exploring the open-air markets of Casablanca, Morocco before moving to Orange County, California. After completing her senior year of high school in France, she spent three years studying theology and discipleship formation and eventually transferred to Westmont, where she served as a ministry intern with InterVarsity Christian Fellowship and as a Spiritual Formation Coordinator with the college. Joanna joined the Student Success Coach team after graduating with her Bachelor of Arts in Music in 2022 and is grateful to be working in her passion: investing in ongoing student growth and development. When not in student meetings, she can be found creating content for the Center for Student Success’ Instagram page, working as an ADHD/Executive Functioning Coach, writing music, or styling outfits. Having grown up in the rainy Pacific NW, Sandy jokes that she is still drying out in the California sunshine. After never moving during childhood, she moved to NY state to attend Cornell for college studying Design and Environmental Analysis. Her first of many jobs after graduation was at Intel Corporation as a facility planner in Portland, OR. After leaving Intel, Sandy lived overseas in Japan and Italy, taught school and homeschooled her 4 children, and most recently was the Learning Center Coordinator at Trivium Charter School in Santa Barbara. Sandy is passionate about seeing students thrive. She is an avid reader, coffee lover and can often be found roller skating on weekends near the waterfront. To make an appointment with Sandy click here. Sandy also has drop-in Office Hours on Fridays from 9am-10:30am.

Sonya is from a small California town called Valyermo (where’s that?) as the oldest of four children. As a first generation college student she has the honor of being the first one in her family to attend college. She has a Bachelor of Science degree in Organizational Leadership and Master of Science degree in College Counseling and Student Development. She joined the Westmont community in 2017. When you don’t find her talking with students about their transition to college, you will find her taking walks along the beach or in her garden. To make an appointment with Sonya click here.
