Trustees Elect New Chair, Vice Chair

The Westmont Board of Trustees has elected Steve Stong as its new chair, replacing David Eaton who has completed his six-year term. Denise Adams has been elected vice chair, filling the vacancy left by Stong.

The board of trustees oversees the operation of the college.

Stong is president and CEO of Steven Label, which he purchased in 1986. A 1975 graduate of Westmont, he earned his M.B.A. at Harvard. He has served on the board for a decade, much of that time as chair of the finance committee. He also serves on the presidential search committee.

“The next few years will be exciting and significant in the history of the college,” Stong says. “We will be introducing a new president. We will be breaking ground on long-awaited and much-needed buildings. Our endowment will grow rapidly, thanks to investments by many wonderful friends of the college. All this will allow Westmont to pursue its mission with even greater excellence: to provide a quality liberal arts education while holding Christ preeminent.”

Adams is a member of the Westmont Art Council and splits her time between her art studios in Montecito and Roxbury, Conn. She graduated from Kent State University and earned her master’s degree from Connecticut University. She serves on the board of visitors for the Yale School of Music, the board of trustees of Lyme Academy College of Fine Arts, and the advisory board of the Yale Center for Faith and Culture. She joined Westmont’s board of trustees eight years ago and has served on several committees, including the campaign task force and the presidential search committee.

“I have known and admired both for many years, and I am delighted by their appointments,” says Chancellor David K. Winter, who serves as interim president. “We are very blessed by the quality and commitment of our trustees.”
