ALUMNI STORIES

Alums Earn Fulbrights

Three Westmont alums, Kenna Brase ’22 of Foothill Ranch, California, Simeon Michelson ’24 of Nashville, Tennessee, and Elizabeth Potter ’22 of Cheney, Washington, won prestigious Fulbright Scholarships to teach English outside the United States. Brase served in Turkey, Michelson in Azerbaijan and Potter in Thailand.

“Westmont’s global focus, particularly the study abroad program, initially ignited my interest in cross-cultural engagement,” says Brase, who graduated with a degree in communication studies and a minor in global studies.

Michelson, who also received the Department of State’s Critical Language Scholarship to study Arabic in Morocco last summer, will serve in Azerbaijan through June 2025 with plans to pursue graduate studies in Middle Eastern history.

Born in Chiang Mai, Thailand, Potter lived there on and off until she was 12. “I wanted to move back and invest in the language, culture and people that gave so much to me as a kid,” she says.
