Westmont Magazine Another National Ranking
As of Jan. 8, Westmont was tied for second place in the race for the 1997-98 Sears Directors’ Cup. Each year, the nation’s athletic directors present this award to the colleges and universities with the best overall intercollegiate athletic programs in the NAIA and NCAA. Institutions receive points based on the national finishes of their teams.
At the end of the fall sports season, Westmont had accumulated 200 points and was tied with Mobile (Alabama). Simon Fraser (British Columbia) is leading with 240 points. The women’s cross country team finished third in the nation, and the men came in 13th. Both the men’s and women’s soccer squads competed in the national tournament, and the women advanced to the final four.
