Westmont Magazine The Campaign for Westmont
The Finishing Touches
The Campaign for Westmont, Embracing the Past, Ensuring the Future, has become the most successful fund-raising effort in college history, thanks to support from generous alumni, parents and friends. As the drive moves toward completion over the next seven months, the college faces the challenge of completing the $5 million Adams match.
Designations by donors have resulted in some items in the campaign receiving a surplus of funding. For example, the college has added more funds to the endowment for scholarships, faculty chairs and other important programs than anticipated.
“One of our goals is to make sure everyone interested in the future of Westmont gets a an opportunity to participate in the campaign,” says Steve Baker, vice president for advancement. “I’m confident that the funds raised through this effort will significantly enhance the educational experience we offer students at Westmont.”
The two major new buildings being funded through this campaign, the center for the visual arts and the building for the sciences, will add essential classroom and instructional space. In addition, the new track and soccer field, faculty housing in Las Barrancas, and renovations to existing buildings on campus all meet important needs.
The Campaign for Westmont is scheduled to end June 30, 2002.
Meet that Match
A major challenge for Westmont in the remaining months of the capital campaign is meeting the $5 million grant given by Stephen and Denise Adams. Intended to encourage donors to support two new structures, a center for the visual arts and a building for the sciences, the grant and the match provide essential essential motivation to the broader Westmont community. Donors have given $3.35 million, or 67 percent of the $5 million goal.
Denise serves on the Westmont board, and Stephen chairs the board of Affinity Group. Denise is also an active member of the Art Council, which supports Reynolds Gallery. They have given a total of $10 million to the campaign for the new facilities. Completing the Adams match puts an important capstone on the successful fund-raising drive, and the couple is confident that alumni, parents and friends will meet the challenge.
