Manager's Toolkit Job Description
Before a requisition is started, there must be a clear understanding of the job to be filled.
This means that a job description must be prepared or revised, and approved. This description needs to be suitable for internal and external announcements such as our job posting board, the newspapers, and job posting electronic sources.
An accurate job description also allows HR to evaluate the job to assign or verify the pay-grade and corresponding pay range. If the job has not been open recently, the pay range will be updated by Human Resources.
Human Resources will provide you with a copy of the most recent job description, but often job requirements and skills will need to be updated.
Even when simply replacing an employee with another in the same job, at the same pay level, this is an important process because it requires an assessment of the department’s needs in light of current circumstances. Some of the factors that should be considered are: the way the job was previously accomplished and structured in light of current needs, the current department organization, future plans that might change the requirements of the job, new priorities of the College, changes in responsibilities and processes/software, etc.
Typically, all job descriptions include information about Westmont’s mission and culture, since recruiting for a faith fit is a priority.
