Westmont Magazine Spirited Poetry

Westmont hosted special readings by Chicano and Chicana poets, “El Espíritu de la Raza/The Spirit of the People: Chicano/a Poetry,” on campus in November.

The participating poets included Luis Leal and Víctor Fuentes from UCSB, Gabriella Gutiérrez from Seattle University, William Martínez from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, Armando Ibáñez from Los Angeles and Armando Vallejo from Santa Barbara. Students from Westmont, UCSB and Santa Barbara City College also read their work.

Jesús Rosales, a visiting professor at Westmont, organized the event. The provost’s office, the modern languages department, inter-cultural programs and the campus Latino cultural organization co-sponsored it.
