Team Lead + Operations:

  • Responsible for promoting and carrying overall direction and vision of Urban Initiative with the advice of the UI staff director.
  • Responsible for providing the current year vision and spiritual direction for UI in collaboration with the UI staff director.
  • Responsible for the spiritual development of team leads.
  • Spearheads all operations, including by not limited to Discover Your Santa Barbara, Fall Breakaway, Spring Break in the City, and piloting new programs.
  • Delegate tasks and keep the team accountable in all matters related to the UI program.
  • Assign core team liaisons to communicate directly with and plan alongside our ministry & service partners in various urban centers.
  • Coordinate orientation and training for participants involved in local UI team efforts, Fall Break Away, and Spring Break efforts.
  • Spearhead and coordinate collaboration between UI core team and local team leaders.
  • Attend and oversee weekly core team meetings, training, and meet weekly with the UI staff director on a regular basis for input, accountability, and encouragement.
  • Support Business + Fundraising Lead with all required fundraising efforts throughout the year.
  • Collaborate with the UI staff director to bring health, sustainability, and longevity to the three, five, and ten year plan for UI.
  • Work alongside the Local Teams Liaison to support all things related to UI local team efforts throughout the year.
  • Actively engage and participate in a local teams ministry throughout the school year.
  • Pray that our urban ministry and partnerships will bring honor and glory to God!
  • This position reports directly to the Assistant Director of Campus Life for Ministry and Outreach.

Business + Fundraising Lead:

  • Provide leadership on all fundraising initiatives including special events, major gifts, planned giving, sponsorships, donor cultivation and alumni care.
  • Responsible for helping the organization obtain better brand recognition and financial growth.
  • Coordinate with staff director, team, Westmont, and the greater Santa Barbara area to review current inflow and outflow of resources trends in order to propose new business ideas that can improve revenue margins.
  • Head of financial management: including accounting, auditing, budget monitoring, creating customized budgets for each team member based on job responsibilities, communication, reporting, and strategic thinking.
  • Provide general oversight of UI’s finances, which includes planning and facilitating all UI fundraising efforts, setting the organizational budget, maintaining accurate financial reports, and submitting check requests in order to ensure timely payments.
  • Ministry Support: Work alongside the Local Teams Liaison and UI-sponsored teams to develop their annual budget and allocate funds when requested.
  • Actively participate in a local ministry throughout the year.
  • Fund Development: Spearhead fundraising vision and strategize its implementation in collaboration with the UI staff director.
  • Attend trainings assigned by the UI staff director on giving and generosity, budget management, wealth management, and asset-based development.
  • Meet with the UI staff director to discuss financial budgeting, account management, and receipt of funds raised.
  • Attend all core team meetings, training, and fundraising events.
  • Actively plan and participate in spring break team orientation and training - communicating all pertinent support raising information to UI spring break teams.
  • Plan with partners and UI staff director and co-lead a SBIC trip.
  • Pray that the ministry and partnerships will bring honor and glory to God around the globe!
  • This position reports directly to the UI Team Lead and Assistant Director of Campus Life for Ministry and Outreach.

Publicity + Marketing Lead:

  • Responsible for positioning Urban Initiative in the public eye and media outlets to showcase programs, opportunities, partnerships, and relevant urban news.
  • Coordinate marketing and publicity efforts and strategies for Urban Initiative and brand.
  • Formulate promotion materials and recruitment for programs.
  • Develop marketing strategies for and coordinate implementation of those strategies.
  • Work alongside UI-sponsored ministries and partners to highlight their ongoing efforts and opportunities to get involved. This includes being responsible for weekly social media highlights, graphic designing and monthly all-Westmont community newsletter.
  • Work closely with both the UI staff director – including regular meetings throughout the year – to discuss all UI activities and trips in order to ensure that all proper protocols and preparations are in place related to marking.
  • Meet regularly with the UI staff director to discuss upcoming publicity needs.
  • Attend all core team meetings, training, and fundraising events.
  • Actively participate in a local team ministry throughout the school year.
  • Actively plan and participate in SBIC team orientation and training - communicating all pertinent support raising information to UI SBIC teams.
  • In communication with partners and under direction of UI student leads and staff director, prepare for and co-lead one of the SBIC trips.
  • Pray that the ministry and partnerships will bring honor and glory to God!
  • This position reports directly to the UI Team Lead and Assistant Director of Campus Life for Ministry and Outreach.
  • This position requires that the individual have expertise in graphic design, social-media and marketing. Well-versed individuals in Adobe InDesign, Illustrator and/or Canva will be given priority.

Education + Programming + Travel Lead:

  • Responsible for communicating the clarity of the vision on the team, to the campus, and to our ministry partners.
  • Enables participants to engage with Urban Initiative as thoughtful scholars and life-long learners.
  • Responsible for all travel arrangements for participants to host cities (LA, Chicago, SF, San Diego/Tijuana, and beyond).
  • Responsible for creating, hosting, and promoting speciality events for the campus and the city.
  • Responsible for spearheading Local Focus Week in collaboration with KCI and other partners; all games, activities, events, speakers, chapel communications, and worship.
  • Responsible for cultivating strategic friendships and partnerships in and among the Westmont and Santa Barbara community for the sake of sharing resources and promoting student ministry.
  • Responsible for all transportation in connection with UI.
  • Arrange the necessary materials in each vehicle’s “car pack” to ensure that the needed documents, equipment, and money are in place to accommodate travel.
  • Responsible for coordinating and managing all educational events throughout the year in relation to Urban Initiative.
  • Work alongside UI-sponsored teams and partners to both determine the particular events needs and reserve events services and multimedia to accommodate.
  • Work alongside Publicity + Marketing Lead to coordinate communication and publicize materials for each event.
  • Along with UI core team members, develop pertinent topic ideas for campus-wide educational events and panels to bring in the wider student body to important conversations happening in the SB community and globally.
  • Connect with other student organizations, clubs, and local teams to develop event ideas in collaboration with UI.
  • Coordinate and communicate with speakers and panelists for educational events.
  • Support Team Leaders in preparation for the Community Picnic, educational programming and Cupcakes and Clubs
  • Attend all core team meetings, training, and fundraising events.
  • Actively plan and participate in SBIC team orientation and training - communicating all pertinent support raising information to UI SBIC teams.
  • Actively participate in a local team ministry throughout the school year.
  • In communication with partners and under direction of the UI core team and staff directors, prepare for and co-lead one of the SBIC trips.
  • Lead prayer and worship events which bring honor and glory to God through the UI ministry and her partnerships!
  • This position reports directly to the UI Team Lead and Assistant Director of Campus Life for Ministry and Outreach.

Local Teams Liaison:

  • Responsible for spearheading the current year support plan for UI local teams and team leaders.
  • Responsible for the care and direction of all Local Team Leaders. Including but not limited to, bi-weekly check-ins, creating feedback forms and collecting  other data for publicity and marketing, spiritual and emotional support: pray for and encourage them. 
  • Responsible for the care and support of all Local Partners.
  • Communicate regularly with partners: ask how they are doing and how the ministry is going, if they need more help and support from UI and Westmont, what is going well, what we can improve on or do differently.
  • Collect and submit written reports of meetings; share data with the core team.
  • Meet once or twice a semester with local team leaders and local UI partners.
  • Responsible for accruing any supplies necessary for the ministries.
  • Check in on ridesharing.
  • Responsible for organizing drives in collaboration with local ministries based on need, such as toy drives, sleeping bag drives, and tennis shoe drives.
  • On campus promotion for local ministries, including sign up sheets, flyers, and events.
  • Work closely with both the UI staff director and UI Director – including regular meetings throughout the year – to discuss all UI local programing and brainstorm ideas for effective support.
  • Coordinate local team leaders orientation in the fall and spring, and the implementation of the current year support plan by the UI core team.
  • Meet regularly with the UI staff director for support and encouragement.
  • Host group events for Team Leaders to support them and keep them accountable.
  • Support Team Leaders in preparation for the Community Picnic, educational programming and Cupcakes and Clubs.
