Westmont Magazine Wallace Emerson Society
Both Dave ’67 and Barbara Johnston ’68 Biehl have faithfully volunteered for Westmont. As Montecito residents, they are close to campus, and the college is close to their hearts. Dave serves on the Westmont Foundation and the Warrior Sports Associates board, while Barbara works with the Homecoming committee and the President’s Associates steering committee. They are also committed donors who give annually and have named Westmont in their will. “We want to give back to an institution that has been such an important part of our lives,” says Barbara. “As I get older, I value even more the lifetime of friendships I’ve developed through Westmont,” Dave adds. “If God has given us certain resources, they should be available to make a contribution while we’re alive as well as after we’re gone.” An independent investment adviser who manages investment portfolios for retirement plans and trust accounts, Dave earned an M.B.A. from UC Los Angeles. Barbara taught school until their two daughters were born, and then stayed home to raise them. She later went back to work as a real estate agent with Coldwell Banker.
