Westmont Magazine Wallace Emerson Society
Although Steve ’74 and Sharon Jenks ’75 Hughes both went to Westmont, they didn’t meet until he came back to coach track and field and she returned as resident director in Clark with a master’s in counseling education from USC. Steve went on to earn an M.B.A. from the University of Denver and worked in corporate finance, first for oil companies, and then for real estate development firms. They lived in Colorado and Pennsylvania before moving back to Santa Barbara. Today, Steve owns a consulting business, Hughes Financial Resources, and advises companies in the senior housing industry. Sharon has raised their two children and done extensive volunteer work with the Junior League, the Adult Literacy Council, Girl Scouts, public schools, and their church. Currently, she is the admissions counselor at a skilled nursing facility. The couple chose to live close to campus so they can invite Westmont students to their home. “There are some incredible kids at Westmont,” Steve says. “They have great skills and really will be leaders in the future. Support from alumni can be very beneficial in helping them succeed.”
