Admissions Director Luy Honored

Director of Admissions Joyce Luy was honored with the Guidance Professional of the Year Award at the National Association of Christian College Admissions Professionals (NACCAP) annual conference at Seattle Pacific University in June.

Luy received a standing ovation when she was given the award, which is normally given to a high school counselor.

“Joyce was always the champion for the high school counselor,” said Dr. Janet Miranda of Trinity Christian Academy in Dallas. “How much we appreciate her out here in the trenches.”

Luy has spent many years teaching Christian high school guidance counselors about college planning and how they can better help students and parents work through the college search process.

“We are very proud of Joyce, who is a dedicated member of the Westmont team, demonstrating over the years her competence and passion in the admissions process,” President Stan D. Gaede said.

Luy was named admissions director in 2001 and has served in the Westmont admissions office for 22 years. She has served on the NACCAP executive board, as secretary and treasurer for the Western Association of College Admissions Counselors, and was the first woman to be selected as “Admissions Officer of the Year” in 1995.

She has written several articles and workbooks on college planning and serves as a frequent panelist and keynote speaker for college planning seminars and programs.
