Concert Journeys Through Space, Time

The Westmont Orchestra
The Westmont Orchestra

The Westmont College Orchestra takes audiences on a musical journey through space and time at its Winter Concert Friday, Feb. 26, at 8 p.m. in the Music Academy of the West’s Hahn Hall and Sunday, Feb. 28, at 3 p.m. in First Presbyterian Church. General admission is $10; all students are free. Tickets can be purchased at the door or reserved by calling (805) 565-6040.

The orchestra’s performance includes Brahm’s dramatic “Tragic Overture,” Linda Coleman’s “A Beautiful Land,” Aaron Copland’s “Billy the Kid,” Gustav Holst’s “Mars” and the sweet sounds of Romeo and Juliet with Vincenzo Bellini’s “O Quante Volte.”

“We’re excited to tell such wonderful stories, made manifest in some of the greatest musical gestures of the past 150 years,” says Michael Shasberger, Adams professor of music and worship. “Where else will you encounter a complete romantic tragedy, the entire scope of Christian theology, the life of an American frontier icon, the drama of outer space and an immortal love story all on one program?”

The Winter Concert is sponsored by Northern Trust Bank.
