Erasmus Lecture Addresses Recent Racism

Jorge GarciaProfessor Jorge L. A. Garcia will deliver the lecture “Racism as Vice: The Current Philosophical Debate,” Thursday, Oct. 4, at 3:30 p.m., in Westmont’s Hieronymus Lounge.

Garcia, a professor of philosophy at Boston College, earned his doctorate in philosophy from Yale University and a bachelor’s degree from Fordham University. Prior to joining the faculty at Boston College, he taught at Rutgers University, Georgetown University and the University of Notre Dame. Garcia’s primary research interests include moral theory, bioethics and the philosophical analysis of racism.

“I hope to tie this debate to recent controversies about racism and ‘reverse discrimination,’ including the Michael Richards incident earlier this year,” Garcia says.
