Gottschalk to Sow Seeds of Peace at Westmont

Bobbie Gottschalk, co-creator of Seeds of Peace, an organization that empowers young leaders with reconciliation skills, speaks at Westmont Nov. 1-3. The Gaede Institute for the Liberal Arts at Westmont is hosting Gottschalk, its first Woodrow Wilson Visiting Fellow. The Westmont Campus Life Office and Provost's Office are co-sponsors of the events.

Gottschalk discusses the steps from a liberal arts education to international peace and reconciliation work Monday, Nov. 1, at 3:30 p.m. in Hieronymus Lounge in Kerrwood Hall. She will be speak about her work at Leadership Live at a lunchtime discussion Tuesday, Nov. 2, at noon in Founders Dining Room. She will screen and discuss “Seeds,” a one-hour documentary Wednesday, Nov. 3, at 7 p.m. in Page Hall. The film chronicles the joys and tensions of young people from areas of conflict learning to trust each other at the Seeds of Peace summer camp program.

After helping create Seeds of Peace in 1993, Gottschalk served as its only staff member for its first two years, and as its executive vice president for 14 years. She is now on its board of directors.

Seeds of Peace began equipping Israeli, Palestinian and Egyptian youth, and has grown to include young people from South Asia, Cyprus and the Balkans.

The Woodrow Wilson Visiting Fellows program, administered by the Council of Independent Colleges, brings prominent artists, diplomats, journalists, business leaders and other nonacademic professionals to campuses across the U.S. for week-long residencies of teaching and dialogue with students and faculty members.
