Lady Warriors Open National Tourneys at Home

The Westmont women’s volleyball and soccer teams will host games in the opening round of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) National Championship. The No. 17 Westmont women’s cross country team competes in the NAIA National Championships in Lawrence, Kansas.

The No. 2 Westmont women’s soccer team (15-1-3) will battle Westminster College of Salt Lake City (11-7-2) on Saturday, Nov. 23, at 1 p.m. on Thorrington Field. The Warriors hosted Westminster in September 2012, beating the Griffins 4-0. The NAIA women’s soccer tournament features 30 teams playing at 15 campus sites on Nov. 23. The 15 winners, including host Mobile University, will advance to the 30th annual NAIA National Championship final site in Orange Beach, Ala., Dec. 2–7.

The No. 14 Westmont women’s volleyball team (21-8) opens the NAIA National Championship against Menlo College (19-6) on Nov. 23 at 7 p.m. in Murchison Gym. The Warriors jumped out to their program’s best start, winning the first 12 games, but have won just nine of the last 17. The volleyball tournament features 24 teams playing in 12 opening rounds matches at 12 campus locations. The winners will face 12 teams that received a bye, advancing to play at the NAIA National Championship final site in Sioux City, Iowa, starting Dec. 3. The Warriors last played Menlo in September 2012 in Rocklin, Calif., winning in three sets, 25-12, 25-17, 25-16.

This is the 20th season the Warriors have qualified as a team to participate in the national championship cross country race. This year’s 5,000 meter championship race will be held at the Rim Rock Farm outside of Lawrence. The Warriors are led by freshman Kelly Collins, sophomore Piper Bain, sophomore Jessica Meyers, junior Heidi Nichols and senior Amber Collier.
