Music Season Opens with Faculty Recital

The Westmont Music Department embarks on a new season with a cello master class and faculty recital on Friday, Sept. 12, in Deane Chapel. The master class begins at 4:40 p.m. and the Fall Faculty Recital begins at 7 p.m. All events are free and open to the public. For more information, please contact Nancy Gilbert at (805) 565-6040.
The master class, which begins at 4:40 p.m., will feature John Sant’ Ambrogio, Westmont cello instructor and former St. Louis Symphony principal cellist, and cellists from the studio of Trevor Handy, Santa Barbara Symphony principal cellist and member of the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra since 2002.
The Fall Faculty Recital, which begins at 7 p.m., will feature diverse music from several Westmont music faculty members. Performers include soprano Celeste Tavera, jazz musician John Douglas, clarinetist Joanne Kim, violinist Han Soo Kim and pianist Seungah Seo.
Tavera will be singing “Summertime” by George Gershwin in the opera “Porgy and Bess” and “Nobles seigneurs, salut!” from Giacomo Meyerbeer’s opera “Les Huguenots.”
Seungah Seo, Joanne and Han Soo Kim will perform Mozart’s Kegelstatt Trio (K. 498) for clarinet, viola and piano in E-flat.
