Orchestra to Tour Northern California

The Westmont College Orchestra performs at several Northern California cities Feb. 12-15 as part of its annual spring tour. The Orchestra Tour to Yosemite includes performances in San Luis Obispo, Sacramento, Nevada City and Oakhurst. Admission is free to all performances, although a goodwill offering will be taken.
The 60-member orchestra, under the direction of Michael Shasberger, will perform Tchaikovsky’s “Romeo and Juliet, Fantasy Overture,” “Music for Shakespeare” by Edward Green and “At Shakespeare’s Tomb” by Emily Rutherford. Six members of the Westmont Chapel Band will also travel and perform select pieces.
“The orchestra’s annual tour is a highlight of the season for the musicians and a tremendous outreach for Westmont,” Shasberger says. “It brings Westmont’s story to wide-ranging and diverse audiences and heightens the performance skills and experiences of our students.”
The tour ventures to Yosemite National Park prior to the Feb. 15 concert. The orchestra will visit Crescenta Valley High School for a musical exchange and clinic with their symphony orchestra and string orchestra on Feb. 16.
