Reel Talk, which gives the Westmont community an opportunity to discuss  difficult social, philosophical, or theological questions following a film screening,  features “The Mission,” starring Jeremy Irons and Robert DeNiro, on Friday, March 25, at 7 p.m. in Adams 216 (map). The event, hosted by Chris Hoeckley, is free and open to the public. Hoeckley, director of the Gaede Institute for the Liberal Arts, earned a doctorate in philosophy from Claremont Graduate School. Hoeckley presents a Phi Kappa Phi lecture, “Peace that Passes Understanding: Four Paths to Opposing War” on Tuesday, March 22, at 7 p.m. in Hieronymus Lounge. “The Mission,” written by Robert Bolt and directed by Roland Joffé, is about an 18th century Spanish Jesuit priest (Irons) and a converted mercenary and slaver (DeNiro) who work to protect a South American native tribe from pro-slave Portuguese rule. The 1986 film also stars Liam Neeson and Aidan Quinn.
