SB Music Club Features Westmont Faculty

Several Westmont music faculty members and the first in-residence wind quintet at Westmont will perform a Santa Barbara Music Club concert Saturday, Nov. 2, at 3 p.m. at the Faulkner Gallery in the downtown Santa Barbara Public Library. The performance is free and open to the public.

Andrea DiMaggio, Westmont adjunct instructor of flute, joins husband Neil DiMaggio, Westmont staff accompanist, to perform Georg Phillip Telemann’s Sonata in F minor for flute and piano. Paul Mori, Westmont adjunct instructor of bassoon, performs Peter Schickele’s “Summer Serenade” with Neil DiMaggio on piano.

The concert’s highlight will be the Sonos Montecito Wind Quintet, a newly formed wind quintet, performing Ferenc Farkas’ “Early Hungarian Dances of the 17th Century.” The quintet features applied music faculty with diverse backgrounds, including Mori, Andrea DiMaggio, Trey Farrell (oboe), Joanne Kim (clarinet) and Steve Gross (horn).

Farrell, a graduate of USC’s Thornton School of Music, began teaching oboe at Westmont last year. Kim, who is pursuing a doctorate in performance at the Manhattan School of Music, is the newest member to the Westmont music faculty. Gross, professor of horn and director of the brass and percussion program at UC Santa Barbara, is a former member of the Atlanta Symphony, National Symphony, Santa Fe Opera Orchestra and the Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra.
