Scholar Shares Asian Missions Vision

Timothy Kiho Park, associate professor of Asian mission and director of Korean studies at Fuller Theological Seminary, will speak on “The Korean Church and World Mission,” Thursday, Oct. 18, at 3:30 p.m. in Westmont’s Hieronymus Lounge. Refreshments will be available after the talk.

Park, a graduate of Chongshin University, received master’s degrees from the Theological Graduate School of Chongshin University and the Asian Center for Theological Studies & Mission, and master’s and doctorate degrees from Fuller Theological Seminary. He joined the faculty at Fuller’s School of Intercultural Studies in 1996.

Before teaching at Fuller, Park served as a missionary in the Philippines for 15 years and was involved in church planting in Manila and various locations on Luzon Island. He helped establish the Presbyterian Theological Seminary in the Philippines, where he served as professor and president. Park also founded the Institute for Asian Mission (IAM) and works to help Asian churches and missions through research, publication, consultation and education.

Park has written four books, including “Cross-Cultural Church Planting,” and more than 15 articles for journals and magazines. He serves as president of the Asian Society of Missiology and the East-West Center for Missions Research and Development. He travels to many countries, providing missions expertise and consulting with mission leaders and missionaries in the field.

The public event is part of the World Christianity and Global Encounters lecture series. Park will also speak at chapel on Friday, Oct. 19, at 10:30 a.m. in Murchison Gym.
