SF Urban Students are Cooking Now

New KitchenStudents attending Westmont’s San Francisco Urban Program will now enjoy a new kitchen facility.
The Clunie House, Westmont’s historic Victorian campus at the corner of Lyon and Fell streets, has completed a major culinary renovation.
More than two dozen students each semester live at the house while working at internships and studying in the heart of San Francisco. One of the drawbacks to the house has been inadequate kitchen space and outdated appliances.
Under the leadership of Bill Wright, associate provost and off-campus program director, and Dana Hojsack, former administrative director, the new kitchen was unveiled at a grand opening celebration last month. The event featured Professor Ron Enroth, a co-founder of the Urban Program more than 30 years ago.
A Bay Area architect and contractor created a modern kitchen while retaining the home’s Victorian style. Work spaces are more accessible, cabinets more efficient, and a coffee counter has created space for students to linger. The centerpiece is a new commercial grade stove and 48-inch refrigerator.
Urban Program students are now making their own dinners, individually or in groups. The culinary experience further prepares students for independent living.
