Four student soloists will highlight the Westmont Orchestra’s annual Concerto Concert, Friday, Feb. 27, at 8 p.m. in Hahn Hall at the Music Academy of the West and Sunday, March 1, at 3 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church. Students audition each year for this honor, with the winners chosen by the music faculty.

Violists Megan Wong and Julia Matallana will perform Bach’s “Brandenburg Concerto #6” of 1721. Soprano Christina Farris will sing an aria from Georges Bizet’s famous opera, Carmen, “Je dis que rien ne m’epouvante” (“I say that nothing can frighten me”). Violist Sarah Shasberger offers Vaughan Williams’ “Suite for Viola and Orchestra,” movements one, two and three.

The concerts will also feature Leonard Bernstein’s rousing “Westside Story Overture” and a setting of the hymn “Wondrous Love.”

The 2008-2009 orchestra season is sponsored by members of the Westmont Music Council, which includes Stephen Adams, Barrie Bergman, Dan Burnham, Brooks Firestone, David MacCulloch and Lady Leslie Ridley-Tree.
