Talk Explores Sustainable Agriculture

James Rogers, founder and CEO of Apeel Sciences, lectures about “Recycling Nature’s Intelligent Design” Wednesday, Jan. 18 at 3:30 p.m. at Founders Room in the Westmont Kerr Student Center. Apeel Sciences, a Santa Barbara-based business, helps provide new organic technology solutions for sustainable agriculture. “They’re doing groundbreaking work to produce a product that mimics Mother Nature to reduce food spoilage,” says Michelle Aronson, Westmont’s sustainability and marketing coordinator. “James and his team combine the wonders of science with a deep understanding of the economics of agriculture.”

James, a graduate of Carnegie Mellon University, earned a master’s and doctorate from UC Santa Barbara. His doctoral research won the 2012 Frank K. Padden Jr. Award for polymer physics, the premier polymer physics prize in the United States.

The Sustainability Speaker Series continues with Jay Ruskey of Good Land Organics speaking about “Organic Growing Practices and California Coffee” on Feb. 23 at 3:30 p.m. in Founders Room.
