Tinker Bell Takes a Bow

Sarah Halford as Tink
Sarah Halford as Tink

Award-winning actress Sarah Halford performs “Tink,” her final theater production at Westmont, Friday and Saturday, March 27 and 28, at 8 p.m. in Voskuyl Library. The play is free and open to the public, although reservations are suggested due to limited space. Call the box office at (805) 565-7040 or email tinktickets@gmail.com for reservations.

The new play, written by artist-in-residence Lila Rose Kaplan for Halford, uses an off-beat retelling of J.M. Barrie’s “Peter Pan” to explore ideas of childhood, growing up, and how nostalgia for the past affects the present. The title character finds herself alone on earth, trying to find Peter and return his shadow. She works at the library and is in charge of children’s story time. When she tells the tale of Peter Pan, her own story starts to unravel.

Halford won an Indie Award in 2008 for her portrayal of Jane Eyre, and has given many other acclaimed performances during her four years at Westmont. “Tink” is her final project and represents a capstone on her undergraduate theater education.

“As I have been working on this play, I have realized how much all of my experiences at Westmont have taught me,” she says. “I have felt equipped.” After graduating in May, Halford will work with the Lit Moon Theatre Company for a season and plans to pursue acting professionally or in graduate school over the next few years.

Halford plays seven characters in this one-woman performance, which she co-directed with Diana Small.
