Candidates at the 10th Annual Monroe Scholar Competition

Thirty students competed for four full-tuition scholarships at Westmont during the two-day, 10th annual Monroe Scholarship Competition Feb. 4-5. The award is a four-year, full-tuition scholarship offered to a few high-achieving first-year students each year. It is the highest academic honor an incoming student may receive at Westmont. This year, the competition included students from Texas, Colorado, Illinois, Idaho and California. One student took part in the competition from France. These gifted students have an average GPA of 4.4 (weighted) and an SAT (critical reading, writing and math) score of 2230.

As part of the competition, students write a timed response to an essay question as well as interview with two faculty members or administrators. Monroe recipients are selected for their outstanding academic abilities, strong values, character and desire to grow in their Christian faith.
