The Westmont Trustee Challenge, which began with a matching gift of $100,000 by the Westmont Board of Trustees, has raised $467,000 to support student scholarships. After one week, alumni, parents and friends had exceeded the initial challenge, so the board offered an additional $100,000 matching gift. By the end of the two-week challenge, every goal has been exceeded.

“I am grateful for the leadership of the board and to all the donors who generously participated to ensure a Westmont education remains affordable,” says Reed Sheard, Westmont vice president for college advancement and CIO.

A standard student financial package is made up of numerous awards with a typical amount being $2,500, which means the Trustee Challenge secured financial awards for 187 deserving students.  “This is amazing,” Sheard says. “All of us working together have made a huge impact in the lives of students.”

The Trustee Challenge continues until midnight on Friday, May 15. If you haven't participated and would like to, please go to www.westmont.edu/trusteechallenge.

People who work for a matching-gift employer could multiply their gift further. Please check the list to see if your employer participates.

“We know the extended Westmont community values the education we offer, and we’re deeply thankful for this enthusiastic response to the Trustee Challenge,” Sheard says. “Their generous investment in Westmont helps us continue our important work of educating thoughtful scholars, grateful servants and faithful leaders.”
