Westmont Hosts Week of Classical Music

Westmont alumnus Matthew Roy ’07 explores piano preludes through history in a lecture, “Preludes to an Afternoon,” on Saturday, Feb. 20, at 3 p.m. Roy, a doctoral candidate in musicology at UC Santa Barbara, examines all 24 Chopin preludes that will be performed by Westmont students, Roy, and Steven Hodson, professor of music. Student performers include Malachi Bryson, Lillian Chen, Jonathan Cleek, Merckx Dascomb, Kennedy Hahn, Bethany Le, Serena Lee, Zelin Luan, Sherry Luo, Leal Makaroff, Jesse Olson, Jay Real and Aaron Wilk.
Several faculty members will perform at the Spring Faculty Recital on Friday, Feb. 26, at 7 p.m.
“The Constantine Finehouse Piano Recital” will be Saturday, Feb. 27, at 3 p.m. Finehouse, a scholar-in-residence at Westmont, was born in St. Petersburg, Russia, attended New England Conservatory, Juilliard and Yale. He studied with Fredrik Wanger, Natalia Harlap, Herbert Stessin, Jerome Lowenthal, Boris Berman and Bruce Brubaker.
