This April the Westmont Music Department showers the community with several musical performances, including the String Chamber Concert Wednesday, April 21, at 8 p.m. at El Montecito Presbyterian Church with the Hubert Schwyzer Quartet. The quartet, four rare, hand-crafted instruments that Westmont dedicated last November, is named in honor of a former UC Santa Barbara philosophy professor and cellist. The String Chamber Concert will feature music by Schubert, Beethoven, Dvorak and Glazunov. All performances are free and open to the public.

The Masterworks concerts Friday, April 9, at 8 p.m. and Sunday, April 11, at 3 p.m. will be at First Presbyterian Church, featuring the Westmont College Choir, Alumni Singers, Orchestra and Women’s Chorale. They will perform “Neptune” from Gustav Holst’s “The Planets” and “Dona Nobis Pacem” by Ralph Vaughan Williams.

The Wind Chamber Concert, directed by Professor Paul Mori, will be Wednesday, April 14, at 8 p.m. at Montecito Covenant Church.

The Composer’s Concert Monday, April 19, at 8 p.m. in Deane Chapel will showcase new work by student composers, performed by fellow students and faculty.

The Spring Choral Concert Friday, April 23, at 8 p.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church, gathers the College Choir, Chamber Singers, Men’s and Women’s Chorale and other ensembles for their season finale.

The music continues with a Jazz Concert Tuesday, April 27, at 8 p.m. in Deane Chapel.

Student soloists will highlight the Westmont Orchestra’s annual Concerto Concert, Friday, April 30, at 8 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church. Students audition each year for this honor, with the winners chosen by the music faculty.

In May, the choir will perform during a nine-day tour of Northern California, Oregon, Nevada and Washington. For more information, please contact Helen Park in the music department at (805) 565-6040 or hpark@westmont.edu.
