A record number of students have collaborated to produce 28 different pieces of original theater, dance, performance art and film in Westmont’s largest Fringe Festival April 16-17, 19 at 7 p.m. and April 18 at 3 p.m., all beginning at Porter Theatre. Festival passes ($15 general admission, $10 students/seniors) or daily tickets ($10 general admission, $7 student/seniors) are available online at www.westmont.edu/boxoffice. “It’s a real gift to be able to get to know students from virtually every major and discipline on campus who are participating in Fringe,” says Mitchell Thomas, festival curator and director. “With close to 100 students involved in the making of Fringe, the windows and doors of Porter are thrown wide open for audiences and artists alike. There’s nothing like it.”
The students will be displaying their creativity as actors, dancers, artists, directors, cinematographers, writers, choreographers, designers and producers.
The festival will take place in multiple locations, centered around the patio outside of Porter Theatre. “Audiences will be able to choose their own path through each evening and even take time out on the patio to enjoy a drink, talk about the performances and try to figure out what to see next,” Thomas says. “The Fringe provides a platform that is wildly exciting and critical for our department — a dedicated venue to encourage, develop and celebrate our student artists and inter-disciplinary exploration.”
Students Brynn Mitchell, Lindsey Twigg and Connor Bush are co-producing the festival.
