Westmont, UCSB to Host Annual Lecture in New Testament

Steven Friesen, professor of religious studies at the University of Texas Austin, speaks about “Violence and the Book of Revelation: Žižek and John, Together at Last” at the UCSB-Westmont Annual Lecture in New Testament on Thursday, Oct. 11, at 6 p.m. in UCSB’s McCune Conference Room, Humanities and Social Science Building room 6020. The lecture is free and open to the public. A reception will follow.

Friesen has published several books, including “Imperial Cults and the Apocalypse of John: Reading Revelation in the Ruins,” “Ancestors in Post-Contact Religion: Roots, Ruptures, and Modernity’s Memory” and “Urban Religion in Roman Corinth: Interdisciplinary Approaches.” His current research interests include economic inequality in the early churches. more

Friesen will also speak at Westmont on Friday, Oct. 12,  about "Apocalyptic Personhood: How Revelation Creates Women and Men" from 2-3:05 p.m. in Winter Hall, room 206. The talk is free and open to the public.
