Westmont has won the Golden State Athletic Conference All-Sports Award for the first time in two decades. The conference honors the school with the highest average finish in the conference standings in all its sponsored sports.

The Warriors clinched the top spot in the standings with spring season championships in women’s tennis and men’s track and field. Westmont also took home regular season titles in men’s and women’s basketball. Men’s tennis and women’s track and field both finished second.

“Athletics are one of the ways we demonstrate the overall quality of our institution,” says Dave Odell, Westmont athletic director. “Winning the GSAC All-Sports Award is a demonstration that we’re beginning to represent the institution at a level it deserves to be represented.

“When I became athletic director a little over four years ago, I asked the incoming class (now recently graduated) to join me in a group effort of taking athletics to a new level. That group caught the vision. We won 41 percent of our contests the year before they came to Westmont. This year we won almost 70 percent of our contests.”

Azusa Pacific, which left the GSAC last year, had won the award the past 18 years.
