Westmont Magazine A Westmont-Weingart Match
Thanks to a recent $1.3 million gift, Westmont has successfully matched a challenge grant from the Weingart Foundation of Los Angeles to create an interest-free loan fund benefitting graduates of California high schools. Begun in the late 1980s during the college’s last capital campaign, the program will now make $7,183,000 available to Westmont students who meet the criteria. Many students and alumni have already received these loans which they repay over a 10-year period after graduation.
The Weingart Foundation had set December 1996 as the deadline for raising the necessary funds and will match this most recent $1.3 million gift, now held in trust, when it matures. Westmont will continue to add funds to the loan program, which has made an important difference for so many students.
