Feeling down that you have to cancel big holiday plans? Don’t worry, because we have your ultimate holiday-at-home bucket list!
- Nap: I don’t know about you, but after finals week, I’m pretty worn out. I like to start off my Christmas break with a long nap. Savor the extra rest! Sleep in lots, and stay in your PJs till noon!
- Bake: Missing all those Christmas party sweets? Bake some of your own! Try baking lots of different types of cookies. Bonus points: Deliver them to all your neighbors!
- Make paper snowflakes: If you’re still not in the Christmas spirit yet, you probably need to decorate your house more. Think “Elf” and stay up late turning your house into a winter wonderland, every room filled with paper snowflakes like the ones you made when you were a kid!
- Write letters: Not getting to see your friends and relatives over the holidays is hard, but sending some snail mail is a fun way to stay in touch. Get out paper and a pen and spend an afternoon writing. Become pen pals with your grandparents: they’ll love it!
- Drive around to see the lights: My favorite way to get ready for Christmas is to take a little tour around my town to see all the light displays. Don’t forget to have Christmas music blasting in the car! If you really want to get into it, create awards for the best light displays you see and leave them in the winners’ mailboxes!
- Secret Santa: Organize a Secret Santa with your friends, family, or neighbors. It’s a fun way to stay connected during this time. You can leave the gifts on each other’s porches to keep it extra secret and extra safe!
- Movie night: This is a great family activity to do over Christmas break. Besides the Christmas classics, my family loves watching all the Harry Potter movies and the Narnia movies each year!
- Build a snowman (or a sandman): If you live somewhere where it snows, get outside and embrace the cold! Build a whole snowman family! If you live somewhere warm (I’m jealous…), try using sand instead!
- Read a book: If you get tired of the snow, go inside, cuddle up, and read a book. We spend so much time at school reading assigned books, so now you finally have the chance to pick up one that you actually want to read.
- Cook something new: Cooking is a life-skill, and we can’t survive on ramen forever. So spend the break learning a new recipe! My goal is to learn to make a cozy chicken noodle soup this year.
- Puzzle: Bond (and fight) with your family over a puzzle! Try challenging yourself with a really tough one, and see how long it takes for you to finish it.
- Sing: Most importantly, “The best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear!” Sing Christmas songs around your house, in the shower, on walks, and while driving around. Your neighbors will thank you! Have a Merry Christmas Warriors, and we’ll see you in 2021!
