Westmont Magazine Alumni Board Notes

Most colleges and universities have an active alumni board, and Westmont is no exception. We are a fairly young college in the grand scheme of respected institutions, but I am delighted to report that our alumni board is not a fledgling group. This outstanding group of men and women are striving to make the Westmont Alumni Association effective and useful.

In this first of a series or columns I will write for the magazine, I would like to introduce you to the alumni board. In subsequent columns, I will highlight a few of the activities the board is undertaking on behalf of all alumni. Board members are: Don Low ’81, Kathy White Baer ’65, Amy Beard ’93, Doug Coe ’57, Mike ’90 and Angie Skorich ’90 Hill, Linda Blankenship Melchiori ’74, Bob Kuntz ’67, Peter Partain ’90 and Lisa Noordeweir Partain ’89. Chapter leaders, listed below, complete the board roster.

Representing 13,000 Westmont alumni who are scattered all over the world is a rather awesome task. One of our goals during the past several years has been to help alumni stay connected to each other and to the college through Westmont Alumni Chapters. We have established chapters in some of the major pockets where alumni live. Leaders arrange events that feature talks or music from favorite faculty or staff. We are in the building stages with this program. We have chapters and leaders in the following areas:

Arizona: Cindy Bartram Carter ’87

Bay Area: Roger ’91 & Kelly Kremer ’92 Freet

Central Valley: Steve Kampsen ’78

San Diego: Tim ’96 & Holly McCormack ’96 Anderson

San Gabriel Valley: Mark Harris ’85 & Steve Kamm ’88

Sacramento: Lorin ’87 & Anita Auer ’88 Claney

Orange County: Doug ’84 & Sandy Heinrichs ’85 Mathews and Rudy Sains ’84

Colorado: Steve ’93 & Heather Elden ’93 Hill

Minnesota: Kim Carlson Sorensen ’88

Oregon: Bob ’88 & Leslie Hendrickson ’88 Lockwood

Seattle: Carter ’92 & Kerry Hales ’94 Crockett Washington, D.C.: Bob Lee ’96 and Anna Wiebe ’96.

The Alumni Board and I feel very privileged to have served during David Winter’s presidency. We will miss him greatly and are especially pleased that we were able to welcome David and Helene into the Westmont Alumni Association at the last Homecoming. It was truly a pleasure to name them as Westmont Alumnus and Alumna of the Year.
