Westmont Magazine The Award of a Lifetime
President David Winter received the Santa Barbara News-Press Lifetime Achievement Award at a dinner in November kicking off the News-Press Christmas Fund Drive. Selected by a committee of past recipients, Dr. Winter was recognized for more than 20 years of community involvement in Santa Barbara. Leni Fe Bland, Jerome Harwin, and Ardis Higgins (who once taught music at Westmont) also received this year’s award.
Dr. Winter has chaired local community organizations such as the Salvation Army Hospitality House, the Santa Barbara Industry Education Council, and the Santa Barbara United Way Campaign. In addition, he has served as director of the Montecito Association, the Montecito Rotary Club, the Channel City Club, the Santa Barbara Chamber of Commerce, and St. Vincent’s School. Dr. Winter has also served the educational community by chairing the Western Association of Schools and Colleges and its Senior Commission, as well as being a director of the Council of Higher Education Accreditation.
Leslie Ridley-Tree, a prominent local philanthropist, told the News-Press, “I’m very pleased that David was selected because I feel he is a good witness to how one can be a benefit to the community.”
