Westmont Magazine Business Leaders on Board
To encourage greater involvement by national business leaders on campus, the college is creating a Board of Visitors and will appoint up to 12 people to this group. They will meet during the year to advise the economics and business department, the president, and trustees on curricular and related issues.
“The board will bring new ideas, activities, and viewpoints to campus,” says Edward E. Birch, executive vice president. “These dynamic business people will provide links to the marketplace students enter when they graduate. Visitors will contribute to the curriculum as guest lecturers and consultants, and I’m excited about the contributions these distinguished corporate and community leaders will make on campus.”
Their duties include meeting with economics and business students and professors as well as administrators. They will review existing programs and suggest improvements.
Two Santa Barbarans serve on the board’s leadership team. Richard Archer is an independent consultant in the insurance brokerage industry who formerly served as chairman of Jardine Insurance Brokers Inc. as well as chairman, C.E.O., and president of Frank B. Hall & Company, Inc.
W. Pendleton Tudor is a nationally prominent publishing and marketing executive with extensive experience in positioning, developing, and directing magazines and other products. He chairs the executive committee for ASM Communications, Inc., and was associated with Time Incorporated for much of his career.
