Westmont Magazine An Excellent Educator
David M. Loveless ’67 has won the GEICO Educators for Excellence Award. Celebrating 50 years of business in Hawaii, the insurance company presented seven such awards in December 1999, one for each of the state’s districts.
An eighth-grade English teacher at the Moanalua Middle School (near Tripler Army Hospital and Honolulu International Airport), Dave represents the central district, which includes schools in the central region of the Island of Oahu as well as part of Honolulu. He received a check for $1,000 and a koa plaque from state Superintendent of Education Paul LeMahieu, Lt. Gov. Mazie Hirono, and GEICO Hawaii CEO Timothy M. Dayton.
“This award is really a testament to the school I’ve been working in for 20 years,” Dave notes. “The teachers with whom I work have set an example for professional excellence and dedication, and my boss of 10 years, Caroline Wong, has inspired me more than she will ever know.”
Dave and his wife, Sylvia, (pictured above) attended the awards banquet at the Ilikai Hotel in Waikiki.
