Westmont Magazine A Gala Homecoming Celebration

More than 600 alums gathered for a memorable 70th anniversary evening

Despite an icy wind, alumni celebrated Westmont’s 70th anniversary with enthusiasm and a warm welcome for new President Gayle D. Beebe during Homecoming in October. Set outside in the rotunda of Fess Parker’s Doubletree Resort, the event featured a performance by musician Jadon Lavik ’01, a nostalgic slide show and a talk by President Beebe. More than 600 alumni attended the sold-out evening, enjoying a gourmet three-course meal and the company of college friends.

Earlier that day, alumni became students again, attending chapel to hear President Beebe speak and visiting classes taught by favorite professors. Activities on Saturday included mini-classes just for alumni, a barbecue lunch on Kerrwood Lawn with a bounce house for the kids, and men’s and women’s soccer games and a women’s volleyball match. Members of the President’s Associates gathered for a special lunch.

A number of classes celebrated reunions, gathering for dinner on Saturday night and meeting more informally at other times during the weekend.

Mark your calendar for next year and plan to attend. Westmont will celebrate Homecoming Oct. 3-4, 2008.
